Evening on Jewish youth movements in the Netherlands, 1945-1965

On February 13, 2020, the book Veerkracht (Resilience) on the youth movements in the Netherlands, 1945-1965 was launched at Yad Ben Zvi in Jerusalem. The book tells a unique and fascinating story. It depicts a generation that transformed traumatic experiences into creative energy. These young people thus gave a new positive meaning to their lives. Many sooner or later left for Israel. There they contributed substantially to the building of the new Jewish state. Among the attendees at this events were several of the participants of this unique oral history project.

Keynote speakers were Professor Avraham Wijler and the authors Manfred Gerstenfeld and Wendy Cohen-Wierda.

Book launch Van moordenaar tot rabbi (From murderer to rabbi) on November 11, 2018 in Jerusalem.

The book is a collection of striking stories from Jewish Amsterdam around 1800. At that time, Mokum, as Amsterdam was called in Yiddish, was one of the most vital centers of Jewish life in Europe.

The future of Islam in the Netherlands

On October 13, 2013 ICWV organized in collaboration with UVP a debate in De Balie, entitled ‘The future of the Islam’ with arabist Hans Jansen, Okay Pala (Hizb ut Tahrir), and youth imam Abdul-Jabbar van de Ven. The moderator was René van Praag.

Debate Zionism, IS and Hamas: Find the differences

On December 1, 2014, ICWV organized in collaboration with UVP a debate evening in De Balie, Amsterdam, entitled ‘Zionism, IS and Hamas, find the differences’ with Dutch Member of Parliament Kees van der Staaij (SGP), political activist Sonja van den Ende (Palestinian Prisioners Society Netherlands), assistant professor Matthijs de Blois (international law, UU), lawyer Bart Nooitgedagt, Arabist / filmmaker Ruben Gischler and Zionist activist Ron van der Wieken. Publisher René van Praag acted as moderator. This debate evening was supported by both Palestinian Prisioners Society Netherlands and Federation of Dutch Zionists.
