Old books, testimony to Jewish tradition, often end up in the trash can. That should be avoided. Hence our initiative, which I hope you will support. If you have beautiful old books, such as Machzorim, Sidurim, Zionist publications or Yiddish publications, which you and your (grand)children are no longer interested in, we offer to pick them up and place them in a well kept library.

We mainly focus on old Dutch Machzorim and Sidurim. But also Yiddish books, old travel guides (in all languages) for Israel (including guides from during the Mandate period or before), Zionist publications (in all languages, especially German), Jewish magazines and newspapers. Publications from after 1950 are outside the scope of our collection. And we try to keep only books that are in reasonable condition, without water damage or fungus, without bookworm holes and with no missing pages, inserts or maps. And finally we also collect old records (45, 33 and 78 RPM), as long as they are from before 1970 and concerning Hebrew, Yiddish or Ladino. Plus other vocal music (literally in all languages) released in Israel before 1970 on legendary Israeli record labels like Hed Arzi, Tikva Records and Zakiphon.<\/span><\/p><\/div>

Our initiative was born when Benjamin Evers noticed that dear Mahzorim and Sidurim, books that are often even more than a hundred years old, have no secure future. From this sad observation this initiative arose, which ICWV is glad to support.

If you are willing to pass on to us such witnesses to our rich Jewish tradition, we greatly appreciate it. It should be emphasized that the goal is primary: tribute, to the old books, to the previous generation, and to the Gentiles who saved the books in the dark years. As a sign of Kawod, we want to keep these books and save them from garbage can or Geniza.<\/span><\/p><\/div>
